Catherine Cullen
I received my B.A in Fine Art from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2015. Since then I have not been active as an artist, taking a break to explore other interests. I have recently enrolled in an online coding course and intend to use my background in art to segue into the world of design with a particular interest in User Experience and User Interface.
My previous work explored the relationship between our public and private selves. Various trivial incidents cultivated a curiousness in me to explore how we operate in public versus how we function in the comfort of our own privacy, and how these two personalities perform as an interface. Working largely through illustration and photomontage of my own landscape photography, I would attempt to highlight and contrast the traditionally used medium of photography, for instant capturing, mass-producing and distributing of pornography, with the careful, attentive, laborious mediums used in the art works most commonly found around the home.
My interest in human behaviour, social deviance and observance has always been reflected in my work, and my employment history, whether intentional or naturally. Upon reflection of this coincidence, and looking to up-skill, I have recently began enrolling in online web and mobile app development courses as well as a coding workshop to gain some insight into full-stack development.
It is my aim to continue my education in development and design, in the hopes of beginning a career that allows me to utilize what I learn in a position concerned with understanding the needs and practices of human beings.
